Identify The Need: We are in charge of making a an egg protecter with the provided materials and the protecter would have to protect the egg from cracking after falling form a high height.

The image above inspired me to make my egg design in such a certain way.

Design Description:

The plastic bottle was chosen due to the enough amount of space it offers and it is easily accessible. The plastic bottle is also a light material which lowers the impact of the drop.  The strength of the plastic bottle is discussible but it will still do the job.

The cardboards are located around the plastic bottle and at the tip of the straws; the cardboards will be the perfect material because it is not a hard material so if the egg gets in contact with it then the egg will most likely not crack as easily. The cardboards will cover the bottle from all sides and will form into the shape of a square.

The chute is made up of a plastic bag and four strings, the chute will be pretty helpful because if the design is not so heavy then the chute will lower the impact the egg is falling with. The Chute is one of the major reasons why the egg will drop with less impact.

The straws will be used as the legs of my egg dropper; since the design will have legs the plastic bottle that carries the egg will probably not even make a single contact with the ground. The bubble wrap will take up space which is a positive point and will provide the egg soft pads from all sides.

The bubble wrap will be the only material in the bottle excluding the egg. All these components will surely assure a safe landing and in worst scenario the egg will end up only have a few cracks but not a complete crack where the egg yolk gets released.

My Report:

If you referred to my side notes then you would probably understand the reason why my egg dropper is designed the way it is. All the materials that I have chosen are mostly the ones I could provide. The design isn’t made the way it is to look creative but instead it is for convenience. If I had been creative with this design then the design would be less convenient. The materials that were chosen are all there to ensure safety for the egg.

The design our group had used actually was the combination of two designs, one design was mine and the other design was waqas’s design. Basically our design was like a modified version of my egg dropper design. As result the egg did survive and did not have a single crack on it. I congratulate my group on our success but however we still could have done a few adjustments to win first place for the weight competition.

We don’t have much to improve because our design did lead us to success and it had an average weight. A major improvement for our design is clearly to use lighter materials in the process of building our modified design. I believe the heaviest part of our design was the cardboards that were surrounding the plastic bottle. Either then the weight of the design there is nothing much to improve, the fact that the modified version of my design looks creative.

The reason why our group has led to success was due to the collaboration of each individual group member. We were mostly on task and had split the roles of the building process among each group member. All my group members including me build the inside of the egg dropper together. Afterwards we split up, Juan and I was in charge of making the chute, Waqas and Jun were in charge of building the exterior protection cube. At last we all finished our parts an put them all together and form one perfect design.
